100 Healthy Days: Week 10 Journal

Day 64:

We woke up feeling a little sluggish but surprisingly chipper considering we were drunkenly dozing in the garden until the early hours. We had a small breakfast of crumpets and vegan sausage and then we went to clear up the back garden.

We allowed a bit of technology back in our lives as both of us checked Facebook and we then watched Archer on TV for a few hours.

Early in the afternoon we packed up the car and drove to Margate to join the rabble on Margate beach. It actually wasn’t that bad to be honest, sure it was incredibly packed and parking was a bit of a pain but we found a fairly big patch of sand and it was so hot that we were even able to enjoy a dip in the sea.

Eventually hunger got the better of us, Colette went to go find us some fish and chips but after 30 minutes came back empty-handed, telling tales of queues as far as the eye can see. Instead we packed up and headed back to the car, it was already 6pm so it was getting a bit too cool to be half-naked anyway. We drove to Broadstairs and discovered a place called ‘Viking bay’ which was beautiful. There was a practically empty sandy beach (although I’d be willing to bet it had only just emptied) and the town itself looked like something you’d expect to see on the Cornish coast. We found a chip shop and had fish and chips on the beach.

We finally arrived home at around 10pm and after a long weekend full of sun and fun we headed to bed, ready to face the real world again tomorrow.

Day 65:

I probably shouldn’t be allowed to say ‘real world’ as I am allowed to work from home so for me, the ‘real world’ means I have to get up at 8am, make a coffee, potter around for an hour and then sit at my desk and do a job that I really enjoy.

Banana for breakfast, not feeling all that hungry as that fish and chips was very filling last night. The health check you saw on last weeks blog was actually done this morning as we completely forgot to do it yesterday. In fact, if I had done, I suspect I would have been a good 1lb lighter as I wouldn’t be full of chips.

Day 68

Whoops! I forgot to write in my journal!

So this week I’ve done a bit of high-carb, it wasn’t really a diet choice, I’ve just been hankering for carbs for some reason – probably because we’ve got a fair amount of carb-y things in the house.

Had Chinese food for dinner last night (Wife’s idea) and even though I ordered half of what I normally order, I still feel like I ate too much.

I’ve been trying to use the LifeSum App since mid last week. Unfortunately I’ve decided not to bother with it anymore and go back to MyFitnessPal. The app is fantastic and blows MFP out of the water but they made a fatal error in deciding not to make a web app. Fact is I’m not on my phone that often and using an app instead of a website is just not convenient for me and I’ve been pretty bad at remembering to log my meals (which I suspect has stopped me from being as mindful about my food this week – I wonder if that will be reflected on my health check?)

Had tinned minced and pasta for lunch, I’ve let myself slip a bit in the last week and allowed my portion sizes to get back to pre-100hd sizes and my stomach has been punishing me for it. Terrible acid and a few stomach aches, it’s kind of made me finally realise that I’m no longer capable of eating the amount of food I ate when I was a younger man.

Dinner was one of our ‘feasts’ this is where we buy a selection of different foods and share them, they usually result in us eating less food than in a normal sitting which works out quite nicely. I had spring rolls, sweet chilli tempura prawn, cheese and jalapeno bites and onion rings.

Day 69

Today we’re going to do something we’ve never done before, we’re going to pack a rucksack each, drive down to south Kent and find a big patch of woodland, we’re then going to set up a base camp, tie a few hammocks into the trees and spend the night in the woods! I’m pretty nervous as we’ve never camped without a tent before (at least, not outside of our back garden) but I’m also really looking forward to it.

Breakfast was two fried-egg sandwiches and two mugs of coffee.

OK today proved to be a little disappointing, we ended up setting off a bit late and Colette wanted us to have dinner at the sea front we discovered last weekend. Unfortunately we spent a little too much time there and by the time we left, the sun was starting to set. As we’ve never done wild camping before we decided that putting a shelter up and making a fire in a pitch black wood was probably not a sensible decisions so we’re putting a pin in it for now.

Day 70

I’ve come to the realisation that I’ve not been taking this very seriously for the last couple of weeks. I’ve stopped properly calorie counting and I’ve had a lot of meals that – whilst not strictly speaking cheat meals – were definitely not healthy. I’ve even gotten out of the habit of writing my journal (although I kind of blame the long weekend for that one as I was away from my computer for 4 days)

I’ve really been struggling with the ‘move more’ aspect of things. I think I need to work out a way of getting some exercise that I can actually stick to.

I’ve decided to start taking it properly seriously again. Mango yoghurt for breakfast. I’m determined to see some of that weight drop next week.

Made some plum jam this afternoon and man, oh, man is it delicious. Looking forward to having some of that on toast for breakfast.

The weather was a bit crap today so we ended up staying at home, for dinner I cooked us a massive pot of Quorn Bolognese which should last us most of the week.

Well that’s definitely heading in the wrong direction. I think I need to start taking vegetarianism more seriously, it seems that the weeks I choose to go meat-free I find it a lot easier to lose weight.

so far the biggest change to my diet has been portion control. I can eat a lot less now without feeling hungry, however it seems that might be starting to get reversed as well as I ate a plate of pasta last night with 2 slices of garlic bread and still felt hungry afterwards. I’m going to have to work to get my portion control back again.

All in all it’s not been a very successful week and I definitely need to just roll with it and do better next week.
